Lionel Messi's behaviour discussed by teammates amid claims he'll disobey PSG

mirror.co.uk, 9 November 2021, 14:44
Lionel Messi missed PSG's win over Bordeaux on Sunday and their Champions League draw against RB Leipzig last week as he recovers from "knee and hamstring pains"

Lionel Messi is reportedly set to feature for Argentina in their World Cup qualifiers despite carrying an injury.

To Paris Saint-Germain 's dismay, the forward joined up with his international teammates for the double-header against Uruguay and Brazil as he is permitted to prioritise Argentina games as part of his deal in the French capital.

Messi has been out injured and missed PSG's win over Bordeaux on Sunday and their Champions League draw against RB Leipzig last week as he recovers from "knee and hamstring pains."

PSG sporting director Leonardo expressed his frustration at the decision, saying: "We don't agree with letting a player, who isn't fit to play for us and is in recovery, join up with his national side," he told Le Parisien.

"It doesn't make sense and this kind of situation needs to be discussed with FIFA."

Does PSG have a right to be angry about Lionel Messi's Argentina call-up? Comment below

TyC Sports, via Marca, claims that Argentina are planning to give playing time to Messi as the Copa America holders trail Brazil by six points in the CONMEBOL standings.

Head coach Lionel Scaloni is not planning to take any risks, however, and sees it as an opportunity to get Messi back up to speed.

It's believed Messi will start the Uruguay clash on the bench, but Scaloni wants him to play 90 minutes against Brazil.

Messi has always been a player to put his body on the line even when he's not 100% and he clearly wants to do whatever he can for his country which he puts on par with his club football.

PSG will be watching on anxiously as it was the last international break the 34-year-old picked up these injuries, but his teammates are not worried about his commitment to PSG as they have all spoken highly of him since he arrived in Paris.

Achraf Hakimi

"For Messi to leave Barca, like everyone else, I didn't expect it.

"And when I heard you were coming here, what can I say? A dream for me!

"I played with many great players and the only one I missed was Messi! I am proud to evolve with such a good footballer. To progress, I will pay attention to how he trains, how he plays.

"It will grow the team and each of the players that make it up. We speak the same language, in addition, little by little we are getting to know each other."

"Building a technical relationship with him is easy!

"I give him the ball, I run and he will put it where it belongs! I was surprised by the way he behaved, he is simple, quiet."

Neymar

"I'm very happy, very satisfied having Messi at Paris Saint-Germain. Not only is he a football idol, a top player and a genius, he's also my friend. And when you have friends by your side, your daily life is lighter and quieter.

"We hope to make history together just like we did at Barcelona."

Kylian Mbappe

"I never imagined him coming here! He's one of the rare players who I put in the 'impossible-for-me-to-play-with' category.

"For me, he was never going to leave Barcelona. I am savouring every moment alongside him. You can't forget that it remains a privilege.

"He's someone who loves football. He speaks with everyone, he's trying to integrate in his own way, even if he is a bit shy. But he's not shy on the pitch."

"He's the best player in the world.

"It's a privilege to play with him and it would be fully deserved if he won the Ballon d'Or."

Georginio Wijnaldum

"To see greatness from such a short distance is hard to describe. He's one of the best players ever. To see him (Messi) train every day is a real honour.

"And to see how nice he is as a person, it makes it even more special."

Ander Herrera

"In football, there are types of leadership. "here are those of words, of a captain who encourages and then there are leaders who set an example. That's Leo. When he arrives in Paris and is the first one in the gym, when he doesn't take the rounds as a joke, that's a leader by example.

"Seeing that the number one doesn't take anything as a joke makes the younger players say, 'if the number one is like that, we have to follow him.'"

Angel Di Maria

"I always call him 'Titch'," Di Maria said during an interview with TyC Sports.

"Not at the start, but once we became friends I did.

"He's just like one of the boys really, and that's how he likes it.

"He doesn't like the headlines, that's why he gets on better with those that treat him the same as anyone else.

"Because if you treat him like he is as a footballer - an alien - then you'll be outside his bubble, rather than doing things he likes, like eating together, having fun and laughing.

"We all joke around and call him an alien in the press - and he is - but in the end he is just Leo, he's 'Titch' and we treat him that way."

"He always calls me 'Noodle', and I think that will always be the case from now on."
