Lionel Messi only "half" as happy with PSG as he is with Argentina squad

Carlos Tevez believes his former team-mate Lionel Messi is only "half" as happy with Paris Saint-Germain as he is with Argentina.

Tevez, 38, played alongside Messi at international level and believes he looks "completely different" at PSG compared to when he was banging in goals for fun at Barcelona. The 34-year-old has scored just 11 goals this season, 27 fewer than he managed last term.

Messi joined PSG last summer after he was released from his Barcelona contract due to the club's financial difficulties. He was expected to scored dozens of goals in the French capital but has failed to deliver, with his own fans booing him earlier this season.

Tevez believes Messi now has two different footballing personalities. "One is when he is at PSG and the other when he comes to the national team," the former West Ham, Manchester United and Manchester City forward told Seleccion de Noticias.

Some believe Messi will make an emotional return to Barcelona this summer. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's dad has even hinted that could happen. "I hope it [happens], some day," said Jorge Messi when asked earlier this month.

Yet the latest transfer rumours suggest Messi will fulfil his contract at PSG before signing for Inter Miami. David Beckham's stuttering MLS franchise are keen to bring the iconic footballer to Florida in a bid to grow their brand and challenge for silverware.

As reported by DirecTV via Marca, Messi will purchase a 35 per cent stake in Miami on joining them. Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has made no secret of his desire to sign him. "Leo Messi is still one of the best players in the world," said Mas in February.

"His skills have not diminished. I believe, and David has a relationship with him, that if he leaves PSG, at the time he leaves PSG we would love to have Messi as a player at Inter Miami and be part of our community. Can it happen? We will push. I'm an optimist at heart - can I see it happening? It's a possibility."

Messi has previously expressed a desire to play in the US. "I always had the dream of being able to enjoy and have the experience of living in the United States, experience what the league there is like, but not yet," he said in 2020.

Beckham congratulated Messi when he joined PSG last summer. "Congratulations my friend, you have now joined the family. Very exciting times not only for everyone in Paris, but for all of France," wrote the former England captain on Instagram.

Beckham has also expressed a desire to sign the biggest names in football. "I've always said I want the best players in our club and playing in our shirt because there's a certain expectation," he said in February. "Unfortunately, sometimes it can be a bad thing.

"But most of the time it's a good thing. When I first started this project, people were saying: 'This guy is coming, that guy is coming, [Cristiano] Ronaldo is coming, Messi's coming.' At the end of the day, we need to win, whether it's with the young kids or stars. Our fans will be happy if we have stars on the team, but they'll be even happier if they're seeing young players coming through our academy and lifting the MLS Cup."
