Lionel Messi booed by PSG fans in farewell match for club

Prior to their final game of the season, PSG boss Christophe Galtier revealed that Messi would be leaving this summer.

Messi featured for the Ligue 1 champions for the last time in their home clash against Clermont on Saturday night, which ended in 3-2 defeat.

He was booed during the match and then again during the trophy presentation when his name was read out.

Ahead of kick-off, PSG confirmed that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner will leave ahead of next season.

They said: "After two seasons in the French capital, Leo Messi's adventure with Paris Saint-Germain will come to an end at the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign.

"The club would like to extend its warmest thanks to the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who also lifted a Trophée des Champions and two Ligue 1 titles with Les Rouge et Bleu."

It's been reported that a move to Saudi Arabia could be announced on Tuesday, with Al Hilal keen to be the third club of his career.

Ahead of his departure Messi bid farewell to PSG, a club where has continued to win trophies during his illustrious career.

He said: "I would like to thank the club, the city of Paris and its people for these two years. I wish you all the best for the future."

Messi signed for PSG as a free agent in 2021 after leaving Barcelona, for whom he made 778 appearances.

A return to the Camp Nou has been suggested but a move to Saudi Arabia appears more likely.

The Argentinian World Cup winner will leave the French capital with two Ligue 1 titles to his name.

He scored 32 goals in all competitions for the club.
