The Manchester United midfielder is set to to leave the club after rejecting a new contract and given the bond he built whilst at the Hammers last season, he could very well be back at the London stadium but this time for good.
The 28-year-old was a revelation under David Moyes after he joined from the Red Devils mid-way through last season on loan.
In 16 league appearances, Lingard was a huge threat for opposition defences having scored nine goals and provided five assists in that period.
Even this season, despite not featuring that often, the Man United academy product has found the net twice in five league games all of which came from coming off the bench.
One of those goals came against the Irons earlier this season as he netted a stunning last minute winner for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.
Despite breaking West Ham fans heart's that day, Lingard could be set to amend that after posting a series of messages on Instagram.
The club took to the social media platform and posted a video of Lingard's stunning solo goal against Wolves last season.
The comments were of course flooded by the club's fans who said that the 'social media admin' knew that the 28-year-old could be coming back.
Lingard added further fuel to the fire by posting an emoji in the comments and then proceeding to put the post on his Instagram story.
As if the West Ham fans couldn't get even more excited, Declan Rice posted the 'eyes' emoji underneath Lingard's comment to suggest that he knows that his former teammate is returning to the London Stadium.
Lingard himself also posted a picture of him in a West Ham shirt on his Instagram stories, only added fuel to the fire.
One thing that is almost a certain is that Lingard will not be wearing a Manchester United at the start of next season.
The only question is if he will be at the club until then or if he is able to secure a move in the January transfer window which in this moment in time looks like back to West Ham.
