The city hosts the Beyond The Music festival, celebrating all the individual music tastes of Manchester across several venues from Wednesday to Saturday.
And to encourage people to utilise the public transport of the city, Oasis frontman and born-and-bred Manc Gallagher has got involved.
A spokesperson for the singer said: "When the request was first made by [Greater Manchester mayor] Andy Burnham, Liam loved the idea of surprising tram users by doing the announcements, and he was given the chance to choose his favourite line.
"You'll have to get on to a tram into the city to find out which it is."
As it turns out, Liam's favourite line centres around his beloved Manchester City, who won the treble last season.
Like his brother Noel, the 51-year-old is a devout fan of the Etihad Stadium outfit and did not waste the chance to underline that support, while also probably infuriating a few United fans in the process.
Over the tannoy, Gallagher can be heard saying: "Welcome to the Nee Network. The home of the champions of England and the champions of Europe. Come on City!"
It has already sparked quite the reaction on social media from United fans, with one saying: "Think I'll walk it instead."
Another wrote: "Remind me to avoid the Met this week."

But not everyone has been put off by the Wonderwall singer, including one fan who said: "Any chance of @liamgallagher recording the rest of the stops on the network, the announcements need refreshing, currently on a tram to Ashton-under-Lyne, love it."
Mayor Andy Burnham said: "I am sure that Liam's dulcet tones will wake up a few early-morning commuters, brighten up many a journey, and produce a lot of smiles along the way."
Both Gallagher brothers are huge City fans and there was even talk of an Oasis reunion after winning the Champions League last season.
Liam posted on social media: "If Man City wins the Champions League I call my brother and I bring back the f***in ban together LG x."
However, whether that will actually come to fruition still looks unlikely amid the animosity between the two siblings.
Both brothers have since pursued solo careers and remain huge draws for fans wishing to see them at festivals and gigs.
