Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers plots summer transfer of young Chelsea defender

Leicester are plotting a move for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill following his impressive form on loan at Huddersfield.

Colwill, 19, has impressed in Yorkshire since joining on loan last summer and has been instrumental in the Terriers' surprise push for promotion back to the Premier League.

Leicester scouts have been making regular checks on the centre-back as they look to bolster their defensive options for next season.

The Foxes have struggled this season, conceding 43 goals in 23 Premier League games.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has made defensive reinforcements a top priority when the window opens as he plans an overhaul of the playing squad at the King Power Stadium following a below-par campaign.

Leicester tried to sign Colwill during the January transfer window, but Huddersfield managed to keep him on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Chelsea rate Colwill highly, but Leicester are ready to offer the 19-year-old a quicker pathway to first-team Premier League football rather than waiting for his opportunity at Stamford Bridge.

However, Colwill could be offered a platform to prove he's ready to step up into Thomas Tuchel's first-team squad in pre-season - particularly with uncertainty continuing to surround a number of the Blues' first-team defenders.

Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are all out of contract in west London in the summer, and none have so far found an agreement that would keep them at the reigning European champions.
