L'Equipe rank one Arsenal player below Rob Holding in brutal player ratings

The French newspaper is notoriously unforgiving when it comes to rating the performances of players, leading to some pretty harsh numbers being published.

Arsenal fell to a 4-1 defeat against Manchester City thanks to goals from John Stones, Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne who bagged two on the night.

But while the attacking play of Pep Guardiola's side should be celebrated, it was the Arsenal defenders who copped the most stick.

While Aaron Ramsdale got a 6/10 rating and Granit Xhaka a 5, the rest of the team struggled with low ratings as Oleksandr Zinchenko, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka getting 4s.

Rob Holding, Thomas Partey, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus were all given ratings of 3, while Gabriel Magalhaes was given a particularly low 2.

The Brazilian defender's performance was described as 'a nightmare' with the decision for him to be tasked with man-marking Erling Haaland described as 'not a great idea' with the centre-back 'making too many mistakes'.

Many were quick to blame Holding for Arsenal's defensive woes, but for L'Equipe, Gabriel was worse.

But at least he wasn't alone, with Arsenal's team given an average rating of just 3.7.

While the Gunners still sit top of the Premier League, the defeat to Man City has seen Guardiola's side take control of the title race.

City are now just two points behind Arsenal with two games in hand, meaning that the ultimate crown is very much City's to lose.
