Kylian Mbappe confirms he "asked to leave" PSG and speaks out on transfer plan

Kylian Mbappe has confirmed he "asked to leave" PSG and spoken out on his transfer plan to leave Parc de Princes.

The French star has admitted he asked to leave Ligue 1 runner-ups PSG amid growing speculation about his future.

Mbappe said he gave PSG plentiful warning about his desire to leave and that the club "made him feel like a thief" over the issue.

In an interview with French radio station RMC Sport that will air on Tuesday, the young attacker said he had tried to leave to ensure PSG would receive money for him.

He also had nothing but praise for his club and said: "I asked to leave, because from the moment where I did not want to extend, I wanted for the club to receive a transfer fee so that they could bring in a quality replacement.

"This club has given me a lot, I have always been happy in the four years I have had here, and I still am.

"I said it early enough so that the club could react. I wanted everyone to come out of this stronger, that we leave hand in hand, to make a good deal and I respected that. I said, if you don't want me to go I will stay."

Mbappe was the subject of multiple bids from Real Madrid over the summer including a sensation £172million deadline day offer.

PSG point-blank refused all offers for their star attacker as they see Mbappe as a vital part of their ambition to finally win the Champions League.

However, the 22-year-old's contract only runs to the end of this season, and he claims he asked to leave to prevent PSG losing out on a fee for him.

But now the Parisian club have rejected the offers they risk him leaving on a free transfer anyway, having only kept him for a season more.

Mbappe says he made his stance clear early on, allowing PSG plenty of time before the deadline at the end of August.

He said: "Personally, I didn't really appreciate Paris Saint-Germain saying, 'He is asking to leave in the last week of August' because that is wrong. It made me feel like a thief. I informed them early, at the end of July.

"People have said that I turned down six or seven extension offers, that I don't want to talk to Leonardo [PSG's sporting director] anymore, that's absolutely not true. My position was clear, I said at the end of July that I wanted to leave."

Mbappe is PSG's top goalscorer in Ligue 1, ahead of Lionel Messi and Neymar with four goals and three assists in nine games.

But the team crashed to their first defeat of the season in a 2-0 loss at Rennes.

Despite this, they remain six points clear atop the table, and after beating Manchester City in the Champions League midweek, are top of their group too.
