Klopp voices disdain for UEFA once again with latest fixture complaints

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has once again complained about fixture congestion as he prepares his side for what could be a decisive showdown with Southampton.

The Reds travel to St Mary's on Tuesday evening aiming to keep their hopes of winning the Premier League title - and with it the possibility of completing an unprecedented quadruple - alive. Klopp's men have to win to keep themselves in with a chance of claiming the title.

A draw would see the gap to Manchester City reduced to three points but Pep Guardiola's men would hold a far superior goal difference heading into the final day of the season meaning that they would be all-but champions in everything but name. A loss would of course hand the trophy back to the reigning champions.

The original clash with Southampton had to be rescheduled due the Reds' participation in the FA Cup final at the weekend - Liverpool eventually running out winners against Chelsea on penalties. Klopp though has been left aghast at the scheduling of the showdown at St Mary's, with the game being played on Tuesday instead of on Wednesday to avoid clashing with the upcoming Europa League final between Rangers and German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Klopp said: "Imagine we go there with eight players who played 120 minutes [in the FA Cup final]. Makes no sense.

"We will make changes, I don't know how many. They thought the next day for us to play was Tuesday. We can't play Wednesday - UEFA my friends."

It is certainly not the first time that the Liverpool boss has expressed his displeasure at the way matches are scheduled. He was particularly displeased with the festive fixture list earlier this season with the Reds scheduled to play eight matches throughout the month.

Speaking ahead of a trip to face Leicester City - a game that the Reds ended up losing 1-0 - he said: "Playing on the 26th and 28th, it's just not right. I just say that because it is true.

"I think you can find solutions for that. It's not that difficult to play football in a slightly different way. 26th and 29th, where is the problem? Some teams are doing that."

Following their trip to the South Coast, Liverpool then round-off their domestic season against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield, where they will hope to still have aspirations of beating Pep Guardiola's men to the Premier League title. However, they will not quite be finished there as they look forward to the Champions League final against Real Madrid in just under two weeks time.

They could potentially be walking away with three cup titles to their name come the end of the season having already claimed the Carabao Cup and FA Cup earlier this season, and will certainly be aiming to earn revenge against Real Madrid with the Spaniards having overcome them in the Champions League final in 2018.
