The Reds duo both impressed for Egypt and Senegal respectively and ended up going all the way in the tournament before ultimately facing each other.
But is was Mane who tasted glory as his decisive spot-kick saw Senegal win their first ever Africa Cup of Nations title.
Now that the tournament is over, when will Liverpool be able to call upon their star marksmen again? talkSPORT.com takes a look…
How many games have Salah and Mane missed for Liverpool?
The Reds' 3-1 FA Cup win over Cardiff became the sixth match Salah and Mane were absent for due to their involvement at AFCON.
The pair featured and both scored in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the start of January before jetting away with their countries.
Since then, Salah and Mane missed both semi-final legs against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup as well as an earlier FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town.
Liverpool ultimately went undefeated during their time without the wingers, as they also secured a trio of Premier League victories.
When will Salah and Mane be back?
The AFCON final was held in Cameroon on Sunday, but Klopp has revealed the Reds are expecting both stars back this week.
And that could mean Salah and Mane might appear in Liverpool's next game against Leicester on Thursday - otherwise fans will have to wait until a trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley this weekend.
"I think they will be available for Thursday," Klopp said ahead of their FA Cup win over Cardiff. "But we will see.
"Whichever one wins will probably fly back to their home country for a celebration - that's how it is.
"I think by Tuesday or Wednesday, at the latest, the winner will be back and the other one probably slightly earlier.
"I have to talk to them, I don't know, but if they have one thing it's rhythm, because they've played quite a few games."
