Klopp reveals panic of Van Dijk injury scare but Liverpool star '200 per cent' fit

The Dutch defender went down holding his ankle during his side's 6-1 win over Turkey in Tuesday's World Cup qualifier.

Klopp revealed that it was a "scary moment" after Van Dijk missed the majority of last season following a clash with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in October's Merseyside derby.

"With Virgil, that was obviously a scary moment, you can imagine," Klopp told liverpoolfc.com.

"I sent him a message after the game: 'Are you alright?' - 'Yes'. '100%?' - '200%'. 'Come on, send me a video of you without limping…' - 'I'm only limping off'.

"So he called me from the bus and said: 'Boss, I'm fine!'. I said: 'Why are you limping then?' He said: 'My wife asked the same!'.

"So, yeah, that was a bit of a tricky moment but apart from that, no, all fine."

Since his £75million arrival from Southampton in January 2018, Van Dijk played a huge part in the Reds' Premier League and Champions League successes.

Prior to his injury, the Netherlands captain was an ever-present for Liverpool and did not miss a minute of their trophy-winning seasons.

However, Klopp's side struggled without the Van Dijk last season and, without the 30-year-old, they failed to retain the title or win any kind of silverware.

Van Dijk has returned to the Liverpool starting XI this season, playing all three of their opening games of the season, and he looks back to his usual self.

He and his fellow Reds defenders have conceded just one goal this season, as they look to win back their Premier League title from Manchester City.
