Klopp praises Liverpool stars and picks "moment of the night" from AC Milan win

Jurgen Klopp insisted he "couldn't be more proud" of his Liverpool team, as they set an incredible European record in the San Siro.

Victory over an outclassed Milan side saw them record a clean sweep of wins in the so called 'group of death', and become the first English side ever to achieve the feat in the Champions League.

That they did it - through goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi - after making eight changes from the stronger line up which won at the weekend speaks volumes for the quality Klopp has to call on.

And the Liverpool boss was emotional afterwards when he said: "I'm very proud of the boys, especially because it was the sixth game in a tough group.

"Everyone was surprised before the game with the line up (making so many changes), but I said we wanted to win the game - and I meant that because we needed fresh legs, to be fair.

"And what the boys did to prove that, I couldn't be more proud! It was an incredible game and the performance was outstanding. Playing here in the San Siro against Milan, to have so many shots and finish so many situations with an attempt was amazing.

"We played outstandingly well, with a team that isn't used to playing together, and defended with passion and good organisation, so I am really happy. There were some amazing things from this team out there."

Klopp had special praise for his three senior players who started the game, Alisson, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, with the attacking duo simply tormenting the Italians, and the keeper producing one important save.

But the Liverpool manager reserved his "moment of the night" for centre half Nat Phillips, for a turn in his own box as he beat two men that would have done the Milan great Paolo Maldini proud.

"Yeah, that was the moment of the night - c'mon, the game he played was outstanding, it's really ridiculous!" he said.

"But the three senior players were outstanding. Ali is an example for everyone, and the phsyicalty and desire Sadio and Mane showed speaks volumes of their attitude and approach.

"It was a really good mix of fresh legs and quality and I am very proud of them."
