Keane already made his feelings clear on Pogba's contract running out at Man Utd

Roy Keane is confident that Paul Pogba's exit could prove to be a good thing with Manchester United set for an overhaul.

The Frenchman, who was the club's record-signing following an £89m return in 2016, was long expected to leave this summer after contract talks were shelved. Pogba was unable to truly deliver consistently on his promise at Old Trafford with off field issues a constant distraction.

The World Cup winner has led a mass exodus of players whose deals were not renewed in Manchester. Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have all left the club leaving new boss Erik ten Hag to fill the voids as he put his stamp on the squad.

Much was made of the numbers of players leaving the club but, with the Dutchman arriving after a poor season with his own ideas, Keane felt that a fresh slate was in fact a positive. He said on The Overlap Live back in March: "There are four or five players whose contracts are up. People think that is a bad thing; I think that might be a good thing.

"They are letting players move on and they [the new manager] are not stuck with these lads that might have already left the building mentally. You can start afresh with some good, young players and you will certainly be given money to spend."

Pogba played under three managers during his second spell at United but was unable to become the player many expected him to. A constant search for his best position undermined his obvious talent and a move to Juventus now looks to be on the cards.

It was in Turin that the Frenchman first made his name and the Italian club are poised to welcome him back. Max Allegri allowed a young Pogba to thrive and the tactician will, again, be tasked with finding a system that gets the best from the 29-year-old.

United's focus is now on adding to their midfield options with Frenkie de Jong seemingly their top target. Ten Hag has worked with his compatriot previously at Ajax and would be keen on a reunion if a deal can be struck with Barcelona, who are open to De Jong's exit.

However the new man in the dugout is already fearful should the club fail to land De Jong and Christian Eriksen, who is also on his wish list. Old Trafford chief have been told that the midfield duo will be the focal point of his team and missing out on them will be a major blow.
