Legendary striker Wayne Rooney has hinted that Tottenham star Harry Kane has yet to decide on his long-term future after a big-money transfer to Manchester City collapsed last summer.
Kane went public with his desire to quit Spurs just before Euro 2020; citing his desire to "win trophies" as the reason behind him seeking a move.
But, despite being publicly courted by the Premier League champions ahead of the new season, a switch failed to materialise.
Since then, Kane has struck a temporary truce with Spurs supremo Daniel Levy - but his future at the club is still relatively uncertain.
Kane's former England team-mate, Rooney, has now lifted the lid on a discussion he had with Kane just hours after England's Euros heartbreak against Italy back in July which seems to indicate that Kane is still pondering his next move.
"I spoke to Harry after the (Euro 2020) final against Italy," Rooney told The Athletic. "I went back to the hotel and saw all the players. I sneaked in!
"Obviously, I wouldn't say what we talked about in private but for him, it's a decision he needs to make in terms of whether he wants to leave and try to win trophies. You look at Man City as the only club that could guarantee it.
"Or does he want to leave a legacy at Tottenham? Could he do the same as yourself at Newcastle and Matt Le Tissier at Southampton? If he does that, I'm sure he'd have a job for life at Tottenham. You go somewhere else, there's no guarantee it's going to work. It's a tough decision for him."

After failing to get his summer move, Kane has gone on to endure a pretty rough season in the Premier League.
The England captain came under fire from Spurs fans at the start of the season after he went public with his desire to quit the club.
And although Kane has been relatively successful in building bridges off the pitch since then, it's been a different story for his form on it.
It took him seven games to open his account in the Premier League this season before he finally found the net in the 3-2 win over Newcastle back in October.
The 28-year-old then went a further six games without a goal before netting in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool last month.
That strike has, at least, sparked a mini-revival for the Spurs talisman; who now has three goals in four games over the festive period.
But his overall tally is still well below the numbers that the Tottenham ace has delivered consistently over past the years.
The arrival of Antonio Conte, who swiftly replaced Nuno Espirito Santo back in November, has lifted the mood in north London and has seemingly played a part in helping to get Kane firing again.
But it remains to be seen if the Italian's presence at the club is enough to convince Kane that his thirst for trophies can be quenched by staying put for the next few years.
City are still in the market for a striker, although it's likely that Pep Guardiola will keep his powder dry until the summer.
Given Kane's shaky form this year, City may fancy their chances of finally striking a reasonably priced deal with Levy after their attempts to sign Kane were snubbed last summer.
