The England skipper was due to star in Bayern Munich's clash with Union Berlin this weekend, however the contest was postponed due to inclement weather conditions.
Heavy snow on Friday and Saturday has meant that travel in and out of the city has been heavily impacted, with many flights and train routes cancelled.
As a result, a safe journey for fans and players to the Allianz Arena could not be guaranteed with many roads closed and public transport routes affected too.
The playing surface at Bayern Munich's home ground has also been left unplayable with the risk of snow falling from the Allianz Arena roof, posing a serious safety risk to any fans in attendance.
Pictures from Saturday morning even show daring club staff scaling the side of the stadium to shift snow from the iconic exterior.
