Kane dreams of NFL switch - and has even named his dog after Super Bowl hero

On Super Bowl weekend, the Bayern Munich striker will be in action on Saturday 10 February, giving him plenty of time to prepare for the Vegas show the following day and be fresh enough for the Champions League game against Lazio on Wednesday!

Kane loves the NFL so much so, that he named one of his dogs after seven-time Super Bowl champion and former star of his beloved New England Patriots - Tom Brady.

There was even a suggestion that his other canine companion - 'Wilson' - was named after NFL icon Russell Wilson, but Kane has revealed it turned out to be a happy accident.

And Kane, who was a regular guest at NFL London matches in recent years, has made it no secret of his desire to switch sports in his later career, citing his ambitions to become a placekicker.

Using his expert kicking abilities, the role of a placekicker is to score field goals and extra points, as well as serving as the team's kick-off specialist.

Speaking to US TV programme Good Morning America in 2023, the England skipper confirmed his intention.

"It's something I want to definitely explore. I know it will be a lot of hard work," he told host Michael Strahan, who himself upset Brady and the Patriots in 2007 to win the Super Bowl.

"I'm not expecting to just walk up and start kicking field goals. It would be a lot of practice, a lot of hard work.

"But yeah, it's something I'd love to do. The NFL is something I have been following for about ten years now, and I love it, so I would love to give it a go."

His admission wasn't a new revelation, with Kane revealing in 2019 that should he transition into the NFL, it would see him go down as one of the best sportsmen in history.

He told ESPN: "The desire to play in the NFL is real. It's something that in ten or 12 years I definitely want to try.

"If you play in the Premier League and the World Cup and you then play in the NFL, would you then be considered one of the greatest sportsmen ever?

"It goes back to that drive to be the best. Even if I download a game on my phone, can I be the best in the world?"

Should Kane actually switch careers, he would follow in the footsteps of fellow Tottenham icon Clive Allen.

Allen, who scored 84 goals in 135 games for Spurs between 1984 and 1988, briefly played in NFL Europe in 1994 for the London Monarchs, acting as his side's placekicker.

And he believes Kane has what it takes to become a huge hit Stateside.

In an interview with the Daily Star in 2019, he stated: "Kane has a great interest in it and I wouldn't be surprised if in years to come he'll be kicking an NFL football.

"Knowing Kane - and having worked with him - I know all about his mentality and attitude.

"I'm sure he could adapt his style to do the job and I wouldn't put it past him being very successful at it.

"It's also not got the physical demands of soccer - kicking at least - so players can go on a little longer."

And the stats show that Kane has time on his side, with kickers known to have long shelf lives in the sport.

Nick Folk [39] and Matt Prate [39] remain key players for the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals respectively, while Robbie Gould only retired in December at the age of 41.
