Kai Havertz in "huge pain" as Thomas Tuchel provides double injury blow update

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Kai Havertz is in "huge pain" after the Blues suffered a nightmare Saturday against West Ham United.

Havertz was substituted at half-time as Tuchel's side lost 3-2 at the London Stadium and was joined in the treatment room by Marcos Alonso less than half an hour later.

Chelsea twice took the lead in the match but West Ham came from behind to record a somewhat shock victory.

Post-match, Tuchel lamented his team's display, also giving a concerning update on two absentees to add to an already long injury list.

"Kai has huge pain. Marcos has back pain," the German boss said, also being without N'Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell at present.

"It's another two substitutes, two injuries. We have to deal with it."

On the Blues' performance on the whole, Tuchel was asked if his side, who have struggled to reach their high standards in their last three games, were enduring a dip.

"I don't see our performance dip against United and today," the ex- Borussia Dortmund manager stated.

"I think the performance is enough to win the game but what we clearly see is we give easy goals away, this is very unusual.

"We do this now since three match days against [Manchester] United, Watford and today.

"If you do this at this level you cannot expect to have a result.

"We are not good enough in the details at the moment.

"This is a game if you play West Ham, it is about the details. You cannot do big mistakes."

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is navigating a rare sticky patch and his error for the Irons' third goal, after giving a penalty away earlier on, turned Arthur Masuaku 's speculative cross into a winning goal.

"Edou is going through a rough period," Tuchel admitted.

"Okay, his decision making was not on the highest level with the first goal, but we brought him to an awkward situation, he could have saved it but he did not.

"We are far, far away from blaming anybody but we need to admit that we are making too many crucial mistakes at the moment."

He added while speaking to BT Sport : "We had to many individual mistakes, it was the same against Man Utd and Watford.

"We talked about it before and obviously it didn't help. That's the story. Everybody is involved, the decision is not the best to pass the ball back.

"We struggled a bit, defensively too. We have a horrible pass back in the feet of the opponent. You cannot do that in the top level.

"Every loss is a bump in the road, that will not hold us back with we demand from us. We need to play more accurately and more stable."
