Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Roberto Firmino was forced off injured with a hamstring issue that is set to keep him out of Saturday's game at West Ham.
The Brazilian was only introduced at half-time, replacing goalscorer Sadio Mane.
But after half an hour he had to come off himself with Divock Origi replacing him as he walked straight down the tunnel.
Firmino's injury woe adds to Klopp's ever growing list of absentees and put a dampener on an otherwise good night as Liverpool saw off Atletico Madrid 2-0 to qualify from their Champions League group.
The Reds boss said: "If Bobby Firmino hadn't gone off with a hamstring injury, it would have been much better.
"But it was a good performance. I wouldn't have expected this when I saw the draw. For tonight, job done."

Roberto Firmino was forced off with a hamstring issue
Firmino joins teammates James Milner and Naby Keita on the sidelines with both players also nursing hamstring problems.
Klopp's midfield options are being sorely tested with Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott also absent.
Firmino's issue means Diogo Jota, who scored the opener on Wednesday night, will no doubt continue in attack alongside Mane and Mo Salah.
Klopp labelled their win over Atletico as "nearly perfect" with their control not backed up with more goals as the hosts squandered several noticeable chances.
The German added: "I can imagine people wanted to see more goals but we created still many chances, we scored a goal that was disallowed, we had incredible chances in front of goal like, 'wow, how could we miss them?'
"So I think the game was nearly perfect, like we want to have it. We scored the goals in the right moments.
"They were much more on the front foot than they were in the home game, how they started. But we defended that well and then two incredible balls from Trent.
Messi and Ronaldo's time will soon end, but who is set to be their heir apparent?
"Fantastic finishes as well, especially Sadio's one. I think Diogo will expect from himself that he'd finish that off. But Sadio keeps the ball, passes to the outside and is then greedy enough to get into the box and finish that situation off.
"Then with the red card, we don't like that, we don't want to play against 10 men. But then you have to be careful.
"They scored their goal and I don't know exactly how it was offside, I didn't understand it 100 per cent. But in the end it's 2-0 and a great night."
