Jose Mourinho was brutal, he used to send staff off and told me my bedtime

talksport.com, 16 November 2024, 10:00
Jose Mourinho would get so angry he'd kick his own staff off the training pitch at Chelsea, one of his former players has revealed.

Robert Huth played under Mourinho for two years after his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2004.

Huth has also revealed the legendary Blues boss once told him to go to bed when out with his wife.

Asked which of his former managers was the angriest, Huth told Drive: "Jose, he had a good run to him not just to the players, even to his own staff.

"When it wasn't up to his level of you know preparation for training and stuff he was brutal.

"He would send staff in if they didn't, like we did like a possession game and one of his assistants' job was to throw the ball in and we got to kind of readjust the position on the pitch and it wasn't right.

"If it wasn't done correctly he would just stop, hammer him, send him in like a little schoolboy."

The ex-Germany international also revealed that the boss was dishing out orders outside of the workplace too.

He added: "I saw him a few times out. Yeah he said, 'it's time to go to bed Rob'".

Huth made 36 appearances under Mourinho between 2004 and 2006, scoring once from centre-back.

He also won two Premier League titles and the League Cup before he was sold to Middlesbrough.

The 40-year-old remains full of praise for his old boss, though, explaining: "Yeah, I mean, Jose was probably the best I've had because he just came in and we did sessions that I've never had before.

"It was so kind of, everything was football, everything was passing, everything was moving."

Huth continued: "He was brutal, like he was tough. Obviously he had his coaches doing bits and bobs, but he was on it.

"He was as good as he was going to get. I'm talking 20 years ago now when he first took over.

"Now it's the norm, isn't? Like the way the sessions were prepared and all that stuff. But back in the day, everyone was just like, this is amazing.

"The first ten days you'd just be running. Now, when he took over, it's like, no, no, no, we're going to go with the ball and start doing drills."

Mourinho went on to win another League Cup and the FA Cup during his first spell with the Blues.

He returned to the club in 2013 for a second stint in charge, winning both the Premier League and League Cup once again during the 2014/15 season.

But he was sacked the following campaign following a poor start to the season which saw them plummet down the table with the club just a point above the relegation zone in December.
