Jordan makes claim as Palace rehire Hodgson but Parish tweet from 2012 could haunt him

However, a tweet from their chairman Steve Parish in 2012 may leave some fans making claims of hypocrisy.

Hodgson has been named as Palace boss for the second time in his long career following the sacking of Patrick Vieira, with his last stint running from 2017 to 2021.

He is the oldest ever manager in the Premier League, and the talkSPORT co-host can see the positives in the appointment.

Speaking on White and Jordan, he said: "It's a Ronseal moment - with Roy Hodgson, you get what it says on the tin.

"During my time Roy was often at Palace. He comes from Croydon, he's a Palace fan and he will add that extra ingredient into the dynamic these players need to get themselves out of this passive mode they're in and to get them to battle past the games they have.

"Southampton, Leeds, Everton and Leicester - they've got to get points from those four games.

"The Patrick Vieira situation was running its course and the staff, from what I understand, were not the greatest and the players were not responding to them - which is not great.

"I think they will respond to Roy Hodgson. I think he'll get a tune out of them - enough of a tune to get them out of their current situation. I'd be surprised if Roy doesn't do what's required and get my mate Steve Parish out of the proverbial…

"But it's not a win, by the way. You got rid of this fella [Hodgson] two years ago and believed he'd run his race, only to go full circle again and go back to him because you're in the… schtook.

"You're devoid of ideas, you don't know what to do, the Vieira experiment for two years didn't work and you're rewinding the clock to groundhog day. Is it smart, is it desperate? I think it's both. It's a desperately smart move."

Current Palace owner Parish, though, previously made his thoughts known about fans wanting ex-players to return to the club, making this twist a suprise.

He tweeted: "Fascinated by Palace fans obsession with getting ex players back to the club #letitgo #moveon."

Since that tweet, Palace have re-signed three players, the first of which was Wilfried Zaha when he came back from Manchester United in 2015.

Next was Michy Batshuayi, the striker they signed on loan from Chelsea on two different occasions in 2019 and 2020.

Nathaniel Clyne has also returned to the club since then, having left for Southampton in 2012 before coming back eight years later.

Hodgson is the next person to make his way back to Selhurst Park, with the south London side still winless in 2023 as they slip into a relegation battle.
