Jesus seen hugging Arsenal transfer chief Edu as he arrives to complete medical

Gabriel Jesus has been pictured embracing Arsenal technical director Edu in what looks to be the most obvious sign yet that he will become a Gunners player in the coming days.

The Manchester City star has been touted with a move to North London ever since the window opened and Arsenal fans have grown impatient waiting for the deal to be confirmed by either club. According to this latest update, their wait could so very soon finally be over.

Jesus has agreed personal terms with the Gunners shortly after Mikel Arteta's men had their bid of £45million accepted by the reigning Premier League champions. The Brazilian's desire to join Arsenal is thought to stem from his need for regular first-team football with the World Cup coming up later this year.

The striker was all smiles as he was greeted by Arsenal's transfer chief, someone he may already be familiar with from Edu's time as the director of the Brazilian national team.

While loved by those over at the Etihad, ever since his arrival in England he has had to contend with playing a bit-part role while Sergio Aguero lead the line for City. Given Pep Guardiola's side have just purchased both Erling Haaland and Julien Alvarez - it did not look like that situation would change in the coming seasons.

City's loss appears to at long last be Arsenal's gain as snaps of him hugging his fellow countryman Edu undoubtedly put to bed any lingering doubts some of the more pessimistic Gunners fans may have had that the deal could fall through.

Jesus is expected to pen a five-year contract with the Gunners as they are ready to entrust the Brazilian with the burden of goal-scoring for years to come. All the metrics from his time at the Etihad should be enough to inspire hope, from an Arsenal perspective, that the 25-year-old is the right man.

Edu is not the only face Jesus will be familiar with, given he spent two seasons working closely with Arteta while the current Gunners boss was an assistant to Guardiola at the Etihad.

Whenever called upon at City, Jesus would more often than not deliver - whether it be in the Premier League, Champions League or domestic cups. It was Jesus who scored the goal that sealed the club's fate as English football's first ever 'centurions'.

Jesus is expected to inherit the number nine shirt, last vacated by Alexandre Lacazette when the Frenchman returned to Lyon earlier this window. If he can carry that kind of big-game form over to North London, Arsenal can feel like they have a far better chance of securing the much-coveted fourth spot next term after missing out on it so painfully last season.

The Gunners are not planning on slowing down anytime soon when it comes to further transfer dealings. Bids for both Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez and Leeds winger Raphinha have been sent - both rejected. That is not likely to deter the Arsenal hierarchy, who are planning to return with another bid for both of the aforementioned duo.
