Jesse Lingard's celebration, Ronaldo gesture and Varane's reaction

Jesse Lingard and David de Gea came to the rescue for Manchester United with a stunning goal against his former club.

United came from behind to beat West Ham 2-1 with a dramatic finish at the London Stadium.

The Hammers took a surprise lead in the first half through Said Benrahma whose strike was deflected in off Raphael Varane.

Cristiano Ronaldo would quickly get his side on level terms, before Lingard would climb off the bench to secure the three points for Ole Gunnar Solskjear's men with a brilliant strike in the 89th minute.

West Ham nearly stole a point however as they were awarded a penalty in stoppage time as Luke Shaw handled the ball in the box.

Mark Noble was brought on to take the spot-kick with his first touch of the ball but De Gea denied the Hammers skipper.

Here are moments you might have missed from the Premier League clash.

Varane's telling reaction

Man Utd fell behind in the first half as Said Benrahma's effort deflected in off Raphael Varane to wrongfoot David de Gea.

And the French defender's reaction after the goal said it all.

Varane halfheartedly tried to block the Algerian's shot as he turned away from the ball instead of trying to put his full body on the line to try and stop it from going goal bound.

It's one of the cardinal sins of defending and Varane knew exactly what he had done wrong as soon as the ball hit the back of the net.

As Benrahma and his West Ham celebrated the strike, the camera panned to Varane who had a defeated look on his face almost as if he knew fine that it could have been avoided and that he had made a costly error.

Ronaldo's mentality on show

Manchester United didn't long to get back on level terms and surprise surprise it was through that man Ronaldo.

And in more shocking news, it was his compatriot Bruno Fernandes who set him up.

It was almost a carbon copy of his goal against Young Boys midweek as he played on the last defender's shoulder, timing his run to perfection. And Bruno, as he did against the Swiss side, picked him out with an exquisite ball.

Ronaldo was in no mood to celebrate the strike, however, as he picked the ball up and took it right back to the center circle, a perfect example of his winning mentality.

He also gestured towards the West Ham fans as he pointed to himself with the ball underneath his arm.

Lingard has last laugh

Jesse Lingard scored the eventual winner for United against his former club right at the death, but he still showed respect to his former club as he played down his celebrations.

It was a magnificent strike from the midfielder who was in the firing line midweek against Young Boys as it was his mistake that led to their winner as he misplaced a back pass to David de Gea.

But he provided the perfect response as he came off the bench to secure the three points for the Red Devils.

Lingard revived his career at the Hammers towards the second half of last season, but clearly still holds them in high regard as he refused to celebrate the winning strike.
