"I know they hate us" - Riyad Mahrez takes aim at Liverpool after title triumph

The Man City winger claimed yet another Premier League winners' medal on the final weekend and has now aimed a shot at their main rivals Liverpool after they were left commiserating another near miss

Man City forward Riyad Mahrez says Liverpool "hate" his side after they beat the Reds to another Premier League crown on the final day of the season.

Pep Guardiola 's men rounded off a stunning campaign with an equally encapsulating 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium - Ilkay Gundogan having proven to be pivotal following his introduction. The victory saw City hold onto top spot on the final day and with it, their fourth Premier League crown in the last five seasons. It is also the second time that they have edged out Liverpool on the final day of the campaign.

The Reds eventually ended up one point behind City despite their final day victory over Wolves taking them to 92 points. Jurgen Klopp 's men also broke the 90-point barrier in 2019 having accumulated an eye-watering 97 - only to see Man City victorious once again by a solitary point.

Mahrez has now claimed that there is plenty of scorn for his teammates at Anfield and has warned that City will be aiming to challenge for yet more silverware next term. Speaking to Canal+ after their title celebrations, the Algerian said: "Liverpool are a mad team, they are a superb team.. I know they hate us.

"They're sick of us because if we weren't here they would've won everything every year, but we're here and we're never letting go and we'll be here next year too."

Mahrez, 31, is now a four-time Premier League winner having followed up his miraculous success with Leicester City with three further crowns since his £60m move to the Etihad in 2018. He has certainly played a crucial role for Pep Guardiola's troops this season.

Despite City having smashed the English transfer record for Jack Grealish last summer, Mahrez leads the way for City this season with 24 goals to his name in all competitions with nine assists. There could however be a decision to make over his future with just two years remaining on his current contract.

Amid the latest title celebrations, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has sent his well wishes to City following an encapsulating final day of the campaign. Speaking after the game, he said: "Congratulations to Man City and Pep Guardiola.

"Thank you to Aston Villa and Wolverhampton for making a proper game of it. It's not the result we wanted. It was a bit of a rollercoaster. I don't know the results exactly but I know they were 1-0 up - where they 2-0 up as well? Of course at the moment there's disappointment here as well."

He continued: "You can't do more than give your absolute best and that's what the boys did again. We chased the best team in the world to the wire, that's absolutely special. We'll build a team again and go again."
