The feeling at the club is significantly more positive than it was at the start of the season with the Saudi takeover going through last month, while Steve Bruce, who was not a popular manager among fans, has since been replaced by Howe.
Howe is determined to get the job of staying in the Premier League this season done and wants his Magpies side to hit the ground running.
He also wants to see change at Newcastle ahead of their clash at home to Brentford on Saturday as they seek their first win of the season.
"This is an incredibly difficult assignment, it's a tough job," Howe told talkSPORT. "We haven't won a game yet this season, if you look at the league table there's a gap between us and the team above us.
"We've got a lot of work to do to lift us out of the relegation zone as we currently sit.
"But when I look at the players I've worked with in the brief time I've been here, I see the quality that we have in the group, I believe we're capable of getting the results that we need.
"It's going to take a real collective effort. The galvanising of the squad, the supporters and the club in general because we need to realise how serious the situation is and we need to get results immediately.
"We have to change certain things. This isn't meant as any disrespect to anybody else but what's been done this season hasn't worked."
Howe also thanked fans for the support shown to him so far and is eager to see that goodwill on matchdays too.
"My dealings with the supporters, albeit not on a matchday yet, have been fantastic," Howe added.
"Every day when I'm driving out of the training ground, it's pitch black at seven o'clock and there's a group of young lads there and they've been incredible.
"That's the only sample of the Newcastle fans I've had, that and a few near the hotel that I'm staying at. But I do get a feeling of goodwill from everybody, I get a feeling that everybody at Newcastle wants the team to do well.
"If we can create that on matchdays and really support the team, as I know they have done historically and I know they will do again, I think that will help us dramatically."
