Henry aims dig at Boehly after Chelsea owner's Salah and De Bruyne gaffe

Earlier this week, Boehly proposed that the traditional three-up-three-down relegation format be revamped and replaced by a four-team tournament.

He also suggested a 'North vs South' all-star game which could raise money for the EFL.

If that wasn't controversial enough, Boehly mistakenly claimed that Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne were products of the Blues' academy.

Boehly said: "We've got one of the best academies in the world.

"Our academy is Mo Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, Tammy Abraham, Reece James, Mason Mount, Trevoh Chalobah."

Former Arsenal star Thierry Henry weighed in on the debate and slammed Boehly's opinion that European football could learn lessons from sport in the US.

"Did he say a lesson? A lesson? What's that supposed to mean? What are they trying to teach? A lesson? Are you a teacher or something?," Henry told CBS Sports.

"The comment about De Bruyne and Mo Salah… just learn your own lessons and then come back and teach us something."

While Chelsea can claim some credit for Salah's journey, he actually joined the club as a 22-year-old from Swiss side Basel.

It was a similar story for De Bruyne, who joined the club at the age of 21, before going on to join Wolfsburg and then City, where he's currently shining.

Boehly has received widespread backlash for the comments made at the Salt New York 2022 event.

He was answering questions about his new business venture where he spoke about the club's ability to nurture and create young players.
