Henderson missing Nottingham Forest loan clause as Man Utd stance made clear

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson will tie up his move to Nottingham Forest in the next 48 hours.

The 25-year-old has agreed a season-long loan deal with the newly promoted side and will sign after completing a medical. Forest return to training on Friday and the deal for Henderson has been put in place for some time.

But he's been signing a contract of far much more importance after getting married to his fiancée in Rome last week. The United No.2 has been on honeymoon after tying the knot and that's what has delayed his arrival to the City ground.

The deal for Henderson will not include an option to buy because the England international sees himself as the natural successor to Old Trafford legend David de Gea, who he has been unable to dislodge.

Henderson is no stranger to loan moves - he spent a highly successful spell at Sheffield United who he helped to promotion and then stay in the Premier League. He backs himself to become United's first choice man between the sticks and will return come the end of the new season.

He explained his ambition to Manchester United's official club website on his return from Bramall Lane saying: "I went to Sheffield United on loan in the Championship, and then that was big because you go from playing in front of 6,000, 7,000, 8,000 to then playing in 30,000-seater stadiums. But it's got to be done. You've got to back yourself. No one's going to hand it to you. You have to go and do it yourself.

"Chris Wilder phoned me up, he was brilliant on the phone, persuaded me to go, though I didn't need much persuading. I was already there. I was ready to go, ready to play. We had an unbelievable season that year, we had some top lads and we achieved stuff we never thought we'd achieve and we obviously got promoted to the Premier League.

"As everyone knows, I went back there for the following season in the Premier League and I owe that club a lot because they stood by me, they gave me that opportunity to show people that I was serious. I was wanting to come back here and play one day because that's all I've ever wanted, all I've ever worked for, since the day I left my family at 14 to come and live in Manchester."
