Henderson admits Liverpool regrets after draw in Premier League thriller

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson rued his side's missed chances after they drew 3-3 with Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Brentford took the lead through Ethan Pinnock, before Diogo Jota equalised just after the half hour mark.

Liverpool then went ahead when Mohamed Salah scored after 54 minutes, until Vitaly Janelt levelled the game once more.

Curtis Jones thought he had won it for Liverpool when his 67th-minute strike put them 3-2 up, but Brentford's Yoane Wissa had other ideas when he made it 3-3 with eight minutes to go.

Henderson felt Liverpool should have killed the game off when they were ahead at the Brentford Community Stadium.

"It was an intense game, we knew it would be," Henderson told Sky Sports. "It's a difficult place to come. It was a great atmosphere and they made it difficult for us. To go in the lead twice and not see it out is disappointing for us.

"At 2-1 up we had one or two chances to finish the game off. It gives them that little bit of hope. That's football sometimes, we're disappointed with the result but we have to give credit to Brentford.

"We're an intense team as well but there's a lot of room for improvement for us today. We controlled it a little bit better in the second half but unfortunately we couldn't hold on for the win."

Salah reached a landmark moment with his second-half strike against the Bees as it moved him to 100 goals for Liverpool.

The Egyptian's latest goal also makes him the 10th-highest scorer in the club's history, and the Liverpool captain was full of praise for his team-mate.

Jurgen Klopp felt a draw was a fair result

"Incredible moment," said Henderson. "He's been incredible ever since he came to the club. He's a fantastic lad."

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp highlighted his side's defensive struggles and said a draw was a fair result in the end.

"[I'm] not sure enjoy is the right word," he said. "It was a wild ride. They deserved their three goals for the way they played. We obviously couldn't deal with the long balls today but we should have scored more goals.

"They deserved it. I don't think you can control them much better, we created a lot of clear-cut chances but couldn't deal with them defensively. These things happen.

"We should have scored more. If we win 3-2 or 4-3 we still have these struggles defensively. Toney and Mbuemo did really well. Brentford deserved a point.

"I have no problem with accepting when you play this kind of football. That's football. You have to create things to deserve to win. They deserved a point as well because they put up a proper fight.

"I respect that a lot. In the end there were situations we should do better - and then it could be a completely different game. Their goalie should have number 10 on his shirt with the balls that he played."

Klopp's side will now switch their focus to the Champions League as they prepare to meet Porto at the Estadio do Dragao on Tuesday.

Liverpool will then play host to Premier League champions Manchester City in the late kick-off on Sunday at Anfield.
