Leeds defender Pascal Struijk, who was shown a straight red card for the offence, seemed bemused by the incident but Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah led the protests as the 18-year-old was stretchered from the Elland Road pitch.
Such was the gruesome nature of the injury, Sky Sports did not show a single replay of the incident as Elliott lay on the ground in such discomfort.
Physios instantly rushed to the aid of the youngster, who had enjoyed a bright start to the season for the Reds.
While it remains to be seen how long he will be out for, the pain etched across his face as he was consoled by Salah suggests it could be a while until we see the starlet again.
Elliott posted a selfie from an ambulance immediately afterwards and wrote: "Thank you for the messages guys! Road to recovery. YNWA."
"It is a bad injury. Ankle, I heard it was dislocated and they couldn't put it back. He's in hospital so now we have to wait," Klopp said.
"He played again an incredible match. He's an incredible player. Now he's out. Do I want such a young boy to experience this so early in his career? No. But now it's the case and we have to be there and we will be there.
The Liverpool boss added: "We'll play without him, but we will wait for him as well because he is a top player.
"[He was in] massive pain, shock for him, for us and we don't know more. We have to wait.
"I cannot feel the game anymore. Harvey overshadows everything."
Liverpool have confirmed that Elliott has been discharged from hospital.
They added in the statement: "Elliott will be required to undergo surgery in the coming days and the club will offer a further update on his prognosis in due course.
"Harvey, his family and Liverpool FC would like to place on record their thanks to the paramedics and all the staff at Leeds General Infirmary for the care and treatment given."
