Graeme Souness doubles down on opinion about Manchester United star Casemiro to leave Simon Jordan in hysterics

The legendary Scotsman previously called out the Manchester United star, branding him a 'Steady Eddie'.

It caused a furore among the Red Devils fanbase, many of whom have hailed the midfielder's impact since signing for the club last summer.

Casemiro joined from Real Madrid in the transfer window of 2022 with a defensive midfielder clearly needed at Old Trafford.

And the Brazil international has had a successful debut season, slotting in perfectly and providing a much-needed shield for a leaky defence that went on to claim the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season.

It even led to Jordan breaking into giggles after Souness insisted he would love to have been called a Steady Eddie in his time.

The Liverpool legend was live on air as donations came in for his charity following his incredible swim of the English Channel.

One fan rang into talkSPORT and said: "I will immediately donate £20 right now if you, on air, go back on your 'Steady Eddie' comment on Casemiro."

Souness wasted no time and replied: "No, no. I still believe that. I would be happy to be called a Steady Eddie.

"Someone that is a seven-and-a-half out of 10 every week. I don't think he is spectacular."

Jordan, through laughter, interjected and said: "That is a bait and switch if I've ever heard one. If you called Souness a Steady Eddie, his head would come off."

Souness continued: "I still stand by that and I don't think I am wrong on that.

"He is a good player but you would never describe him as a great player."

It follows comments Souness made on Casemiro last year when the Brazilian made the switch to United.

"I don't think he's got any great range of passing, I don't think he's going to make other people play," Souness told talkSPORT in August, shortly after Casemiro arrived at Old Trafford.

"The Real Madrid and that midfield, in particular, was full of footballing types. I see him as being a 'Steady Eddie'.

"He is 30 years old, it's £60million with add-ons, it's too much money.

"It's Man United all over again, Man United will pay a premium for players. But I don't see him making them any better when he has the ball.

"I never think 'I'm really excited to watch Casemiro'. I think he'll make them [United] more solid when he's on the ball because he senses danger and is experienced.

"I don't think he's got a range of passing, I've not seen that. Maybe he'll prove me wrong but I've not seen him ping it all over the place."

Alas, Casemiro appears not to have proved Souness wrong - though even if he did it would be unlikely he'd admit it.
