Georginio Wijnaldum details key differences between Liverpool and PSG

Georginio Wijnaldum has shed light on the differences between former side Liverpool and current outfit Paris Saint-Germain.

Having become a fan favourite at Anfield since his arrival from Newcastle in 2016, manager Jurgen Klopp, along with the majority of the Reds fanbase, desperately wanted Wijnaldum to extend his stay at the end of last season.

A deal between both parties could not be agreed and it became common knowledge that Wijnaldum would up sticks before the end of the last campaign.

Many had expected the Dutchman to join fellow former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona - before the Catalan giants had their deal hijacked at the last minute by PSG, who Wijnaldum duly opted for.

The deal did not cost Mauricio Pochettino 's side a single penny in terms of transfer fees, although Wijnaldum was handed a huge pay increase by the French giants.

Surprisingly, the deal has not exactly gone to plan for the Dutchman, who has already spoken publicly over his frustration at a lack of game-time.

Wijnaldum's role has been drastically reduced when it comes to Champions League football - featuring for just 86 minutes across three group games in Europe's most elite competition - as he struggles to carve out a role in the heart of midfield.

A trip to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are the next test for a PSG side that sit top of their group, one point in front of Premier League titans Manchester City.

Ahead of the game against Jesse Marsch's Leipzig side, Wijnaldum was pressed on what the differences are between his former role at Liverpool and the one he currently has at PSG.

The Netherlands international explained: "In Liverpool we knew each other well, we formed the same team for five years.

"We had our identity, it was different. The style of play too. Here, I think the coach prefers when we rotate, when we do not keep the same position.

"In Liverpool we were together for five years and here it's a new team, I have to get used to my teammates, this is our first season together."

PSG recruited the likes of Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and six-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi, alongside Wijnaldum during the summer.

All arrived as Les Parisiens push to win the club's first ever Champions League title this term - a trophy Wijnaldum already boasts from his time at Liverpool.

Asked whether he has spotted any similarities between his Champions League-winning Reds side and his new PSG teammates, he said: "As I said, the Liverpool team have played for years together.

"We made a lot of progress and evolved before winning the Champions League.

"Here at PSG, it looks like my first season in Liverpool; we discover each other. The most important thing is to get used to the players. It's hard to compare these two teams."
