Gabriel Jesus' training plea to Mikel Arteta as £45m Arsenal transfer all agreed

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, after a £45million fee was agreed for the striker on Sunday.

The Brazilian is set to travel to London on Tuesday to complete his medical, before joining up with his new team-mates for Arsenal's pre-season that gets underway in July. It will be unfamiliar surroundings for Jesus, who has been in Manchester since 2017, but he will be reunited with Mikel Arteta.

Jesus has moved to join up with Arteta after the Spaniard formed a close relationship while he was Pep Guardiola 's assistant at City. And back then Jesus used to ask Arteta to stick around after training to help with his finishing.

Arsenal have lost some serious firepower from last season after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left in January, before Alexandre Lacazette moved to Lyon on a free transfer this summer. But Arsenal are on the verge of signing Jesus, as their front line is refreshed with youth.

Jesus will be the first no.9 that has been signed since Arteta became Arsenal boss in 2019, and the Brazilian is set to form a partnership with Eddie Nketiah who recently signed a new deal. Arsenal will be hoping that Jesus can hit the ground running, after scoring six goals in his last seven Premier League appearances.

And the Gunners could be lethal in attack, as Jesus and Arteta may rekindle their training habits as the Brazilian will have his finishing partner back. Ahead of Arteta's move to Arsenal, Jesus was extremely complimentary of the Spaniard as he said: "He's helped a lot of players.

"When I want to do finishing after training, I tell him and he comes and helps me. So he is really fantastic for us. All the players know that — everyone knows that in the club. He is a fantastic guy and fantastic manager.

"I don't honestly know what he thinks about his career, that is for him. I hope he can find his way and I hope he can be happy."

Arteta then moved to Arsenal, and it hasn't been the easiest of rides for the former City coach. The Spaniard may have won the FA Cup with the Gunners in his first season, but he has had the fans on his back at times.

In September last season Arsenal were bottom of the Premier League after three games, and the future looked bleak for Arteta and the club. But he turned it around, and they would have finished in the top four if it wasn't for a late collapse.

Arteta's 'process' is starting to gather momentum, and Jesus could be the missing link in attack. The Brazilian will join Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira who have already signed for the club.

Arsenal are also chasing a deal for Leeds United star Raphinha, who could be their third Brazilian signing of the window. But the two clubs remain far apart in negotiations which has casted doubt over the move.
