Spartak Moscow forward, Quincy Promes, has been accused by the police of attempted murder and assault on his cousin.
The Dutch international was arrested and interrogated in December 2020 and now, 11 months later, he he will have to go to court.
The attack happened during a family party in Abcoude, a town on the outskirts of Amsterdam, when an argument began between Promes and his cousin.
The former Sevilla star reportedly stabbed his relative in the knee, causing him to suffer serious damage and filing a complaint with the police in November 2020. When questioned on the incident, Promes denied all accusations.
Following an investigation, the 29-year-old has since been charged with attempted murder and could face a prison sentence of between 24 and 42 months.
At the time of the incident Promes was signed with Ajax, but he has since joined Spartak Moscow, in February 2021, and it remains to be seen how the club will proceed given the serious nature of the accusations.
