Footage captures Tom Cruise taking part in 'most dangerous sports in the world'

The Hollywood superstar has been in the Lake District filming 'Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning' where he has once again taken his life in his own hands.

Cruise is renowned for performing his own high-risk stunts and did so once again as he filmed a sequence while speed flying.

Described by Cruise's speed flying coordinator in a video posted on his Twitter account, the sport was described as being "a very small canopy racing down a mountain just feet off the ground".

The film's director, Christopher McQuarrie said: "To shoot these stunts for Mission Impossible, with Tom there are no limits so you become a bit more adventurous every time.

"It's a very beautiful and delicate sport, but it's also one of the most dangerous sports in the world.

"While it may look similar, speed flying is not sky diving. Sky diving is fairly predictable, speed flying is incredibly unpredictable."

After training for the sequence for 'a couple of years', Cruise said that the stunt would end by landing on a specific mark at the high-speed of 80kmh.

While Cruise pulled off the stunt in spectacular fashion, McQuarrie did acknowledge: "Flying so close to the rocks looks absolutely beautiful, but behind the scenes we were all in absolute terror."

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One is in UK cinemas on July 14.
