Fernandes cheekily tells teammate Martinez to get quicker whilst at World Cup

The 24-year-old Manchester United defender is preparing to play for Argentina at the Qatar tournament where he will be looking to continue his excellent club form.

Martinez made the switch to the Red Devils in the summer, reuniting with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

He heads off to win the biggest prize in football on the back of a 2-1 win against Fulham where he defended against Brazilian Carlos Vinicius, instead of the physically imposing Aleksandr Mitrovic.

Former Benfica forward Vinicius, may not be as robust as Fulham's Serbian star, but does have blistering pace.

Martinez discovered this in west London when the Cottagers' number 30 made several runs into the channel.

"Vamos," he wrote. "We go into the break with a win and showing our spirit until the end."

Commenting on, Fernandes replied: "Please train for speed in the selection."

They were in good mood at this point given they were unaware that teammate Cristiano Ronaldo was engineering a move away.

United have looked solid without Ronaldo, with Fernandes netting once and assisting twice in his last three matches.

Meanwhile, Martinez has looked more calm and composed since Harry Maguire has been dropped to the United bench.

The World Cup begins on November 20, with Argentina in a group against Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.
