'Fake news' - Messi's father hits back at claims Saudi Arabia move has been agreed

French media outlet AFP reported on Tuesday morning that the 35-year-old had agreed a move to Saudi side Al-Hilal on a deal worth an eye-water £522million.

Messi is out of contract this summer and is therefore free to discuss terms with other clubs, however suggestions of a move being confirmed are wide of the mark.

Taking to social media, Messi's father and agent, Jorge said: "There's absolutely nothing with no club for next year. The decision will not be taken before Lionel finishes the league with PSG.

"Once the season is finished, that will be the time to analyse and see what there is, and then take a decision."

He added: "There are always rumours and lots of people use Lionel's name to gain notoriety but there is only one truth and we can assure people that there is nothing with nobody. Not verbal, signed, agreed, and there won't be until the season finishes.

"It seems like a lack of respect to me… that there are those who consciously and deliberately deceive people, without providing any proof of their affirmations, and wanting to turn into news any rumour that is badly intentioned or directed by somebody in favour of their interests. They should explain why they don't check their information… They wouldn't want a truth to ruin their 'news'."

The Argentine superstar moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021 after an emotional farewell from Barcelona following the club's complicated financial situation.

However he took little time to adapt in Ligue 1, scoring 34 goals and 31 assists in 71 appearances for the French giants.

Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Messi has seven Ballon d'Ors and a bulging trophy cabinet that includes 11 league titles, four Champions Leagues and a Copa America.

He also added the final piece of the jigsaw after winning the World Cup with Argentina during last year's competition in Qatar.
