Everton star Richarlison trolls Liverpool after Man City win Premier League

mirror.co.uk, 22 May 2022, 18:32
The Toffees forward wasted no time at all in poking fun at Everton's Merseyside rivals Liverpool after they missed out on the Premier League title on the last day of the season

Everton talisman Richarlison has taken to Twitter to laugh at Liverpool's expense after the Reds were beaten to the Premier League title by Manchester City in the last knockings of the season.

Liverpool actually fell behind to Wolves at Anfield early on but swiftly equalised, while Aston Villa enjoyed a two goal advantage over City with less than 15 minutes to play - meaning a goal for Jurgen Klopp's men at that stage would have put them in the driving seat.

Instead, a remarkable turnaround from Pep Guardiola's men saw Ilkay Gundogan net a brace with goals coming either side of a delightfully taken Rodri equaliser. Gundogan's second sparked jubilant celebrations from the Etihad faithful who knew a fourth title in five seasons now awaited them.

The full-time whistle was eventually blown to confirm Liverpool's misery, with the Reds reaching 92 points but still falling short. Though Klopp's troops can still be immensely proud of their efforts this term and their 3-1 win on the final day, the Toffee's forward was in no mood to give them any credit.

Instead, Richarlison uploaded a commonly-used GIF of Arsenal icon Thierry Henry struggling to hold back his laughter - implying that he was doing the same at Liverpool's expense. The post is sure to attract plenty of attention from both Everton and Liverpool fans online.

Ultimately, it remains Liverpool who have had the last laugh out of the two Merseyside teams. While there were huge celebrations at Goodison Park earlier in the week due to the Toffees securing their Premier League safety, it is the Reds who have two trophies in their cabinet already.

Despite the FA and Carabao Cup glories of this season, Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson admitted there was a sense of disappointment among the players after the game. "We didn't play particularly well, as well as we can," the Reds captain explained.

"To fall behind it's never easy, but in the end we came through really well and scored some good goals, and found a way to win.

"We didn't really know what the score was, we heard from the fans but I lost count if you like. We did what we had to do to win the game and we got the job done.

"We've been in this position before but it's tough. Unfortunately it wasn't enough. We can't have too many issues, we did absolutely everything all season right until the last day. If you had said we'd be here in January, we would have bit your hand off."
