The first meeting of the season between the two sides has been long in the making after their original December fixture was postponed.
Since then, the Toffees have replaced Sean Dyche with David Moyes and reaped the rewards with three wins from his first five games.
Meanwhile, the Reds crashed out of the FA Cup at the weekend, ending hopes of a quadruple in Arne Slot's first season.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool
45' - Well, you could argue that Idrissa Gana Gueye is a lucky boy.
Cody Gakpo rolls the midfielder, and the former Aston Villa man grabs onto the Dutchman's shirt.
He quickly lets go, and Michael Oliver plays advantage, which comes to nothing.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool
41' - Beto is a proper handful up front.
Everton are happy to go direct as often as possible, and the striker has won plenty of them.
He's also a very willing runner and is determined to make himself a nuisance at all times.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool
34' - Jesper Lindstrom now gets a yellow card as a long ball is played up to Beto.
The second ball is picked up by James Garner, and Alexis Mac Allister is adjudged to have fouled the midfielder.
Lindstrom asks for a booking and finds his name taken instead.
The resulting free-kick comes to nothing, and Idrissa Gana Gueye hauls Luis Diaz to the floor to also pick up a yellow card.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool
32' - The game is just settling down a little bit now.
However, neither side are able to really maintain any sustained period of possession.
Instead, tackles are flying in all over the place, and both teams are struggling to build anything.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool
27' - Andrew Robertson becomes the first man into the book for a blatant push on Idrissa Gana Gueye.
Arne Slot is baffled at the decision from Michael Oliver, but it was a stupid foul by the Scotsman as Gueye could only pass the ball backwards.
The Reds feel that decisions aren't going their way, and Goodison is like a bear pit this evening.

Everton 1-1 Liverpool
23' - Some concern here for Iliman Ndiaye.
The Everton winger kicks the floor and immediately collapses to the floor.
It looks as if he's jarred his knee and can't carry on.
He is absolutely devastated as he leaves the field.
Strangely, he doesn't get a stretcher and limps off the pitch as Jack Harrison replaces him.
Sam Matterface and talkSPORT said: "He knows it's a serious injury, and the whole of Goodison Park stands and applauds."

GOAL! Everton 1-1 Liverpool - Alexis Mac Allister
IMMEDIATE RESPONSE!
Everton try to play out from the back, and it's intercepted.
The ball is played to Mohamed Salah, and he curls a cross into the six-yard-box.
Alexis Mac Allister gets up and flicks a sublime header with the back of his head.
Jordan Pickford thinks it is going wide, but it sneaks into the bottom corner.
What a game we have on our hands!
Salah has now recorded 22 goal involvements away from home this season, which is more than any Premier League player in away games has ever managed.

GOAL! Everton 1-0 Liverpool - Beto
DREAM START!
Beto has opened the scoring and this place has exploded!
It is such a clever goal as Jarrad Branthwaite plays a free-kick from just inside the Liverpool half through the Reds' defence.
Beto times his run perfectly, dummies the ball to get in front of Ibrahima Konate and opens up his body.
As Alisson Becker comes out, the striker simply slots the ball into the bottom corner.
And given Beto is the club's only fit striker, Stuart Pearce recognises how important the forward is.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said:"Beto is so important until the end of the season. That is a really intelligent run, and now the game has opened up."

Everton 0-0 Liverpool
6' - It's been a good start from the hosts here.
They are being aggressive and playing the ball forward quickly as often as possible.
Jesper Lindstrom is causing all sorts of problems for Andrew Robertson as well.

Everton 0-0 Liverpool
3' - Great move from Everton as the ball is slipped into Jesper Lindstrom.
The winger has time and space to pick out a man in the box, but he drills a low cross into the area that is easily cleared by Ibrahima Konate.
The corner comes to nothing, and Stuart Pearce was disappointed with that.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said:"He's played it too soon. The cross should have been towards the far post."

A message
This is a very interesting choice of programme cover from Everton, as they've gone for Mikel Arteta celebrating a goal against Liverpool.
Arsenal are currently six points behind Liverpool at the top of the table, but this is the Reds' game in hand.
Should they win here, they will move nine points clear at the top of the table having played the same number of matches.
But any points dropped would open the door for Arteta and co.
So, are the Toffees hinting they will do their old player a favour?
Well, we'll find out.
Meanwhile, Liverpool fans have a cheeky message of their own.

Liverpool vs Everton: Pre-match facts
Everton won 2-0 in their last Premier League game against Liverpool in April 2024, last winning consecutive league Merseyside derbies in the 1984-85 campaign.
Liverpool's 2-0 loss in this exact fixture last season ended a 12-game unbeaten away run in the Premier League against Everton (W3 D9). They've not lost consecutive visits to Goodison Park since a run of three between 1992 and 1994.
Everton vs Liverpool is the fixture to have seen the most red cards (23) and been drawn 0-0 the most (12) in Premier League history. Also, Liverpool have scored more 90th-minute winners against Everton in the competition than any other side against a single opponent (5).
Liverpool have won 99 games against Everton in all competitions (D77 L68) - if they win this match, it will be the fifth time an English league side has beaten another 100 times since the formation of the Football League in 1888 (Arsenal 111 vs Everton, Manchester United 106 vs Aston Villa, Liverpool 103 vs Aston Villa, Arsenal 100 vs Manchester City).
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 19 Premier League games (W14 D5). On both previous occasions that they've gone into an away league game against Everton on a 19+ game unbeaten run, they've lost - 0-1 in October 1978 while on a 23-game run and 0-1 in March 1988 when on a 31-game run.

Liverpool history
Well, this is rather unusual, but with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones on the bench, the Reds are set to make some Premier League history.
This starting XI that Arne Slot is the first since the Premier League started they've named which hasn't had an English player in it.
Now, I have no idea how many games that is, but given the top-flight started in 1992 and used to have more teams, we are talking an absurdly high number.
Of course, there are other Premier League teams who've done the same, but none of them have had the longevity of Liverpool.
It is quite a stunning statistic.

One last dance
So after 130 years at Goodison Park, this is the final Merseyside derby to be held here.
It is a sad moment as we say goodbye to playing an iconic fixture at a fabulous ground.
Goodison has provided some special memories in Merseyside derbies over the years for both Liverpool and Everton.
Incredibly, after 119 derbies, Liverpool and Everton are locked at 41 wins each, so the ultimate bragging rights are up for grabs here.
The emotion can already be felt in the stadium, and the Everton fans produced a magnificent welcome for their team.
