Erling Haaland drops X-rated comment during interview after Man City win

talksport.com, 29 December 2024, 17:38
Erling Haaland forgot to keep his post match interview PG after Manchester City's 2-0 win over Leicester.

A bad habit embedded in him from his time in the Bundesliga where swearing in interviews isn't so frowned upon, but Haaland rediscovered his good goalscoring habits with the decisive goal in the triumph at the King Power Stadium.

The scoring opened in the 21st minute as Savinho fired home after Jakub Stolarcyzk parried Phil Foden's shot into the path of the Brazilian.

The Foxes continued to give the away side problems but weren't clinical when they needed to be with Jamie Vardy fluffing his lines in front of goal in the second half.

Haaland then made Leicester pay in the 74th minute by heading home Savinho's curling cross from the left.

The Norwegian now has 14th goal in the Premier League this season, two behind Golden Boot leader Mohamed Salah.

But Haaland was guilty of one swear word too many in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

"I think it's important to look ahead, s*** happens," said the striker when asked about Man City's recent struggles.

"Things happen and we have to keep going, we have to stay positive and we have to focus on the right things."

He continued: "It's always a relief when you score. It was an important goal to go 2-0 up. Leicester had a really good game and they've been playing really well with the new coach so we knew it was going to be difficult.

"Every game is difficult. It's been a difficult time and now it's new years so I won't think too much about football because it's actually five or six days until the next game."

Haaland managed to keep his interview PG in a post-match interview with talkSPORT's Sam Matterface fortunately.

"It was an important goal to kind of relieve the pressure, they put a lot of pressure on us. So yeah overall, happy to the game," Haaland said.

Asked how he's remained positive amid a poor recent run of results, Haaland said: "It's easy and it's difficult to say this but it's our job.

"We live with this job but it's also important to… You go on a job and you go home, you relax, it's an important thing and it's the most difficult thing because you care so much about it and all you want to do is win.

"But it's important to still rest your mind and stay positive and look around you, look at the people around you, your family and everyone and still enjoy Christmas even though we lose a game.

"I know it's difficult but it's important to do, and to keep going. That's what we did today, we won and everything and super happy."

Haaland has been under heavy criticism having scored only one in seven league matches prior to kick-off at Leicester.

The result sees City end their six-match winless streak on what was Pep Guardiola's 500th match as manager of the club.

Guardiola's side now sit in fifth eleven points off Liverpool in first.

It may be too late for Man City to claim their fifth consecutive title but the fight remains for Champions League football next season.

They also still have a chance of domestic silverware in the FA Cup as they play Salford City in the third round 11th January.
