Christian Eriksen concedes it is "weird" to finally be a Manchester United player.
The Dane has signed with the Red Devils after his short-term contract with Brentford expired in the summer. His spell with the Bees put him back on the map after he'd left Inter Milan due to Serie A rules, which stated he couldn't play with a fitted defibrillator following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.
United became interested as they sought to add new faces to their midfield and bring in more creative flair. The move was a drawn out affair and left Eriksen questioning whether a switch to Manchester would ever materialise this summer.
He told the club's website as he spoke for the first time since the move: "It's weird, I never thought it would actually happen, so to be here, like you say being a Man Utd player, it's very special."
The former Tottenham man went on to add that a return to the Premier League wasn't on his agenda when he left English soil. He added: "I think from my career path before the incident in the Euros, the planning wasn't to go back to the UK at all.
"I was thinking my time to go to Manchester United was before! Obviously, then I was at Spurs, and then went to Italy, but now to sit here is definitely something that I didn't expect, but I'm also very happy that I'm here. It feels good, it feels good to be here."
Have you say! Will Eriksen be a starter this season? Let us know here.
Eriksen is Erik ten Hag's second signing, following Tyrell Malacia, and it was through discussions that the playmaker felt he could fit into the new look set-up at United. He claimed: "First of all, the football. I mean, I'm a guy who wants to play football and I think with the idea of the manager coming in and the ideas he had and also with my conversations with him, I mean I could see myself playing football in Manchester.
"And, at the same time, it's a very, very big club - if not the biggest. If you pronounce it anywhere they know where it's from, they know where the locals come from. It has a big history and it's a nice feeling to be part of something that is that big in history."
Eriksen helped Tottenham register their best ever Premier League finish during his time in north London whilst he was also part of the team that made the Champions League final back in 2019. He was renowned for coming up with assists at Tottenham and was equally as influential at Brentford.
