England v Norway LIVE: Lionesses look to build on win but face star Hegerberg

talksport.com, 7 July 2022, 10:20
England will be looking to build on their opening win at the 2022 European Women's Football Championship when they take on Norway in Brighton.

Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses opened up the showpiece tournament at a sold-out Old Trafford on Wednesday night by beating Austria 1-0.

Beth Mead scored the only goal of the game as England got off to a solid if unspectacular start.

Ellen White, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo all went close but England struggled to find quality in front of goal.

Wiegman will want to see more from her side in their second Group A tie but that won't be easy against Norway and superstar Ada Hegerberg.

England v Norway: live commentary

talkSPORT will have live coverage from Brighton's AMEX Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 8pm.

England came through their opening clash unscathed and should have another full squad to pick from against Norway.

England v Norway: What has been said?

England boss Wiegman: "It's so important to win and have a good start.

"We have shown different phases - some good, some not so good. We should have scored more and made it easier. We wanted to start well.

"We didn't keep the ball well enough. We scored a good goal and had some more chances. Overall I'm just happy.

"I'm not frustrated, I just think we can do better."

England captain Leah Williamson: "You don't have to be at your best in the first game and you can grow. Points on board is the most important thing.

"We've dealt with pressure and expectation and it's over now. Good start."
