Eintracht warmed up for their European duties in perfect fashion as Die Adler ended Union Berlin's unbeaten start to the campaign with a 2-0 victory at the Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday. Götze and Jesper Lindstrom grabbed the goals in that win as Oliver Glasner's team moved to within three points of their conquered league leaders. Luca Pellegrini started on the left with Kristijan Jakic out last weekend, while Makoto Hasebe has been operating in the three-man defence after a string of injuries at the back. Highly impressive summer signing Randal Kolo Muani was sent off with just over 20 minutes to go against Die Eisernen, but will be at Glasner's disposal in midweek before his domestic suspension kicks in for the Matchday 9 meeting with Bochum. That should mean the Frenchman continues to lead the line, but a knock to Götze will likely see Djibril Sow recalled in midfield.
Tottenham, meanwhile, didn't enjoy quite the same build-up as their hosts. Antonio Conte's team were soundly beaten 3-1 by North London rivals Arsenal at the weekend, suffering what was their first league loss of the campaign. Like Frankfurt, Spurs have begun Group D with a win over Marseille and a loss to Sporting to leave both sides chasing the Portuguese pace-setters. In the visitors' ranks are a number of familiar faces, including former Bayern Munich duo Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Ivan Perisic. The former also spent time at Schalke and Augsburg, while Perisic not only won the treble with Bayern in 2019/20 but also lifted the DFB Cup with both Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg. He should start ahead of former Hoffenheim loanee Ryan Sessegnon on the left, with Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen old boy Son Heung-min forming part of a three-man attack.
Match stats
Lindstrom made his 50th appearance for Frankfurt in the win over Union.
His goal in the 1-0 win over Marseille made Lindstrom the first Eintracht player ever to score in the Champions League.
Frankfurt have won their last three matches against English opposition, while Spurs have been beaten by German sides in each of their last four meetings.
Son scored 41 times in 135 Bundesliga outings for HSV and Leverkusen, prior to joining Spurs from the latter in 2015.
Perisic collected a domestic double alongside Götze with Dortmund in 2011/12, won the 2014/15 German cup with Wolfsburg and claimed Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Cup glory at Bayern in 2019/20.
The Croatian scored three times and played in all but one of Bayern's perfect Champions League-winning campaign that season.
