EFL Trophy QF draw details as Wigan hit six to join Arsenal and Chelsea

Two-times winners Wigan Athletic sealed an emphatic 6-0 win over Oldham to book their spot in the Papa John's Trophy last-eight.

The League One Latics thumped their fourth tier namesakes at Boundary Park, with all six goals coming in the space of 39 minutes.

Gwion Edwards notched two goals, with Tom Naylor, Will Keane, Max Power and Gavin Massey also finding the net in a rampant performance.

The result stretched Wigan's unbeaten run in all competitions to 13 games and the last time they tasted defeat of any kind was back on October 26 last year.

Leam Richardson's side, who won this tournament in both 1985 and 1999, will now await the draw for the quarter-finals.

Five other teams also booked their spots in the draw on Tuesday night.

Hartlepool United caused the night's biggest upset after they dumped out League One side Bolton. Matty Daly scored late on to confirm Pools' spot in the last-eight.

Elsewhere, Charlton Athletic also pounced late to qualify after Jonathan Leko's stoppage time goal saw off MK Dons.

There were also wins for Harrogate Town, 1996 winners Rotherham United and Sutton United - who continue their fine run in what is their first-ever taste of this competition following promotion last season.

There are still three ties outstanding. Exeter City play Portsmouth in a re-arranged last-32 clash this coming Friday (January 7), with the winners then facing Cambridge United in the last-16 four days later.

That same night (January 11) sees Arsenal and Chelsea's under-21s play their last-16 tie.

They are the last two remaining Premier League academy sides left and they are scheduled to lock horns at the Emirates.

As academy sides are always based away from home it represents a rare chance for both club's youngsters to play at one of the largest stadiums in the country.

The draw for the quarter-final will take place before those three ties however. Unlike previous rounds it will not be regionalised or seeded. It takes place on Thursday, January 6 live on talkSPORT between 11am and 11.30am.

Former Swansea City manager Garry Monk, who won the competition in 2006, will be conducting the draw.

The quarter-finals are scheduled to take place the week commencing January 24. The semi-finals are set to be held the week commencing March 7, whilst the final is pencilled in for Sunday, April 3 at Wembley Stadium.
