Donnarumma hits out at reporter and Joshua Kimmich after Germany thrash Italy

Gianluigi Donnarumma was "angry" with Italy's performance and hit out at a reporter after his side suffered a 5-2 defeat by Germany on Tuesday night.

The Germans cruised to a five-goal lead in Monchengladbach thanks to strikes from Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan, Thomas Muller and a Timo Werner brace. Willy Gnonto and Alessandro Bastoni pulled two back for Italy towards the end of the game, but these goals were merely consolations.

The result leaves Italy third in Group A3 in the Nations League and drew a fiery reaction from Donnarumma. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper slammed his side's display and declared "there are no excuses" for the manner in which they lost the game.

"We are angry. There are no excuses, we have to get back out there and prove this is not us. There are simply no excuses," Donnarumma told RAI Sport, per Football Italia.

"We were lacking everything tonight. There was also some fatigue after four games in 15 days at the end of the season, but we don't want to seek alibis. Now we will look each other in the eye and analyse everything.

"We're really disappointed for the fans, for what they saw tonight. We had a few chances, but it's not good enough. We'll analyse everything and start again.

"All of us made mistakes. I could've dealt with the situation better at 4-0 and kicked it away, but you learn from mistakes and grow. Now we just have to rest and come back much stronger than this."

Donnarumma was asked about how he struggled with his distribution from the back after he gifted Germany their fifth goal with a loose pass. The shot-stopper was unhappy with the question but confessed he will take the "blame" for his mistake.

He said: "When did it happen before? When I was fouled against Real Madrid [in the Champions League last 16]? If we want to cause controversy over these things, then fine, I am here to talk for the team. If you want to blame me, fine, I'll take the blame, I am the captain and I keep going with head held high. I think you're all trying to create something about these errors, fine."

The former AC Milan prospect was also very angry with Germany goalscorer Kimmich after the final whistle, as the midfielder tried to lob him from the halfway line with the last kick of the game. Donnarumma felt this was disrespectful and was not happy with the Bayern Munich ace.
