Diogo Jota opens up on battle with Liverpool's 'best in the world' front three

Diogo Jota knew his challenge when he arrived at Liverpool last year - breaking up one of the best front threes in world football.

When the Reds splashed out £41million for the Wolves forward, there were concerns about how much playing time he would be given thanks to the trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

But the Portuguese quickly made his mark at Anfield, with injuries the only thing holding him back in his first season with the club.

In his second campaign, Jota has started all but one Premier League game, scoring three goals, including one in Saturday's draw with Brentford.

But with Firmino returning to full fitness at the weekend, there is a chance he could come back out of the lineup when Liverpool face his former club Porto in the Champions League this week.

Klopp's side travel to Portugal looking for their second group win, having overcome AC Milan in a thrilling encounter on matchday one.

However, rather than see the return of Firmino as a negative, Jota instead believes the competition can only help all four of them continue to thrive.

"I knew Liverpool attackers were one of the best trios in the world. I just wanted to come and give my best," Jota told reporters. "Then it is the manager who decides, these players help you because we all want to win.

"I always want to help my team-mates. Playing under Jurgen with this team helps us a lot. We play a lot of attacking football. I am always around the goal."

He continued: "Well 12 months here is already a mark playing for this amazing club with its surrounding like Anfield and the support around the world, it's special. We want to win matches and competitions, so we will go for everything."

Klopp was also full of praise for the 24-year-old described by his assistant Pep Ljinders as a "pressing monster".

"Exceptional player, really happy we signed him," the Liverpool boss said. "A really strong personality.

"He's a very mature man for a young age and that makes it really enjoyable to work with him. It's not easy to improve us but Diogo has done that, definitely.

"He is a player made for our style: pretty intense, technically good, really fast, good in the air, both feet really good.

"Diogo is a very interesting package and I am really happy we saw that and could realise the transfer. That has helped us a lot."
