Deschamps on Benzema: I cannot anticipate a judicial decision

Didier Deschamps is in no mood to talk about the legal issues hanging over Karim Benzema's head before any judicial decision is reached.

The French coach recalled the Real Madrid striker to play for the world champions at Euro 2020, and proved himself to be an important player for Les Bleus, working well with Kylian Mbappe in attack.

"I make sporting decisions," Deschamps said on Monday, asked about the case involving Benzema and Mathieu Valbuena. "I don't have the ins and outs.

"I don't want to anticipate a judicial decision."

Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann is another of the forwards called upon by the French boss, and he has been impressed with what he has seen from Los Rojiblancos' new No.8.

"He played well in the Champions League and scored against [AC] Milan," Deschamps said of Griezmann. "He didn't start but he scored, and that's good for his confidence.

"He didn't start at the weekend against Barcelona. He's back with Atletico but they are a different team. But knowing their quality, I'm not worried. I think he's happy to be back with us."

France could have two brothers playing together this international break, with ex-Atletico Madrid star Lucas Hernandez being joined by former Real Madrid full-back Theo Hernandez.

"They're brothers but I consider them, above all, to be two players," Deschamps said. "Lucas has the ability to adapt on the left, and Theo plays on the left too.

"They can evolve together, but it doesn't necessarily mean that one will force the other to play somewhere else."

Deschamps has called up a number of relatively inexperiences players this time, at least at international level. Nine of the players he has summoned have fewer than three caps to their name.

"If I've called someone up it's because I trust them," Deschamps said. "The less experienced nine won't start against Belgium, because the others already know the system and do things automatically together."
