David de Gea blasts Man Utd teammates for lack of "desire" - "It is a disgrace"

The comments come in the wake of Manchester United's miserable afternoon in Merseyside where they were toppled by relegation-threatened Everton at Goodison Park

David de Gea has claimed Everton showed "more desire" than Manchester United during their 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

United put in yet another dismal showing away on Merseyside, falling to a dismal defeat courtesy of Anthony Gordon's first-half strike. The effort deflected off of skipper Harry Maguire to wrong foot De Gea and Ralf Rangnick's side had no answer.

Jordan Pickford was called into action a fair few times and was equal to everything the visitors threw at England's first-choice shot-stopper. With that being said, it rarely felt as if United were ever enjoying a sustained period of pressure throughout the contest.

After the game, the De Gea admitted United were way off the pace despite the fact they had more of a rest than their opponents. "They [Everton] played Wednesday and they were tired but they had more desire than us, that is not acceptable. Very sad to lose today," claimed the Spaniard.

"It is a disgrace from us, we should be winning this game," continued the furious goalkeeper. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes were kept at bay for the most part which is a testament to the defensive efforts of the entire Everton side. It is a damning result that does significant damage to United's hopes of Champions League qualification for next season.

The Red Devils now sit seventh in the Premier League table, behind the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and West Ham United. While just three points separate Ralf Rangnick's men from the coveted fourth spot, United have now played one game more than Spurs and West Ham, two more than the Gunners.

United have looked some way off their best for some time, this defeat coming seven days after a drab 1-1 draw at home to Leicester City in a game they can consider themselves fortunate to take a single point from.

Rangnick cut a frustrated figure for much of the contest and bemoaned United's lack of creation. "Second half, we were trying to add more creativity with our substitutions but we could not choose the right moment or make the right decision and couldn't score a single goal in 95 minutes", explained the German.

The interim boss insisted that despite the speculation surrounding who will succeed him, United have no excuses. "This should not be an excuse, we are Manchester United - we have a lot of international players.

"This should not be an alibi or excuse to nobody, there will be a new manager next season and if this is being announced now or in 10, 20 days it should have no impact on a game like today."
