A few hours after his plaque was removed from Atletico Madrid's walk of legends outside the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, Thibaut Courtois took to social message to send his own message.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper put in a man-of-the-match display to lead Los Blancos to Champions League glory with his saves in the final against Liverpool.
"Hala Madrid," Courtois wrote on Twitter to accompany his picture with the Champions League trophy and the MVP award.
His controversial comments
Before the final against Liverpool, Courtois stressed during a press conference that he is "now on the good side of history."
The Belgium international was in goal for Atletico Madrid when they lost against Real Madrid in the final in Lisbon back in 2014.
The Madrid mayor's message
Madrid mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, who is an Atletico fan, didn't forget Courtois' remarks after Real Madrid's victory in Paris.
"On the good side of history, it's also us who cried with you in Lisbon," said Martinez-Almeida.
Cerezo on Courtois' plaque
On Monday, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo responded to some fans' desire to remove Courtois' plaque.
"If you want to remove Courtois' plaque, go with an axe and shovel and remove it," Cerezo commented.
