Conte says he 'must feel he deserves new contract' as Tottenham boss addresses future

As a result, the 53-year-old's long-term future at the club has been called into question with his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium due to expire next summer.

Conte has been coy in recent weeks about the prospect of signing a new deal and this week said that it would have to be right for all parties.

Speaking in his pre-Leeds press conference, Conte said: "When you start a path with a new club your dream and your hope is to stay for a long time.

"You know very well in modern football it's not easy to have a long period for managers. Many times it's the club who make the decision to sack you after bad results. We're in continued danger every day about this aspect.

"Sometimes you're lucky to have good results and to find a club with the same ambition, desire and will to improve together and to grow. When this happens you are lucky.

"Every manager dreams of this type of situation. Then the reality is not always this."

He added: "My contract expires on June 30. Until that moment the club has to make the best evaluation.

"It will be important to see the rest of the season, what happens and if we're happy with the improvement we're doing.

"In my side it's important for me professionally, I have to feel I deserve to sign a new contract with this club. I have to feel this. For sure we'll talk with the club and find the best solution."
