Conte couldn't contain anger at his 'bottlers' as Dele Alli piled on pressure

Antonio Conte will return to Chelsea with his new Tottenham side but his last outing in this fixture didn't go well as his then Blues side were well beaten, resulting in scathing criticism from the Italian

Antonio Conte will be involved in yet another Chelsea vs Tottenham clash on Wednesday night, only this time his allegiance will be to north London.

The former Blues boss won two and lost two of his league meetings against Tottenham during his two years spell at Stamford Bridge.

He also won a crucial FA Cup semi-final back in 2017.

But his last taste of this fixture left him fuming as Tottenham won in west London for the first time in 28 years.

Pressure was mounting on the Italian, who had publicly called out what he perceived as a lack of ambition from the club's hierarchy.

Conte was also failing to mount a meaningful title defence with Champions League qualification far from assured.

The 3-1 loss, in which Chelsea had taken the lead thanks to Alvaro Morata, left the Blues in fifth and saw Conte slam his side as bottlers.

Dele Alli scored twice within four second-half minutes after Christian Eriksen had levelled the contest with a sensational strike.

It was Alli's second that left Conte so angered that he booted a bottle of water in the dugout.

The Tottenham star was able to seize as Chelsea failed to clear their lines several times, allowing Alli to take advantage.

Conte said: "There was great frustration to concede a stupid goal in this way.

"Instead of putting the ball in the stand. I did this with the bottle of water. Maybe I wanted to play in that moment and shoot the ball in the stand.

"But, I repeat, there are a lot of players with not great experience and they have to gain that experience also with mistakes. We must have patience."

Chelsea had won just three of their nine games leading in to the Tottenham clash, but hoped that history would again repeat itself at the Bridge.

Instead defeat further fed the narrative that Conte would be heading for the exit door in the summer.

The Tottenham reverse came after recent humiliating defeats to Bournemouth and Watford whilst they also lost at Manchester City having had just 29 per cent of the ball, which forced the Blues boss to defend his tactics.

The Blues only lost one of their remaining seven games - a final day defeat at Newcastle - and finished the season with an FA Cup win over Manchester United at Wembley.

That success did little to help Conte though, who would be sacked just days into pre-season.

He is back in England however and his next job will be to plot Chelsea's demise.

The Italian has made an instant impact at Tottenham and is yet to lose in the Premier League.

Wednesday night will be his first return to Chelsea since his departure more than three years ago, but he insists he has nothing to prove.

"I think in my position, I mustn't prove anything to anyone," claimed Conte. "I am a manager with experience and I have continued to do an important job in other teams."

The Tottenham boss will be aiming to end the club's trophy drought, which dates back well over a decade.

Chelsea were the victims the last time the north Londoners claimed silverware back in 2008.
