At least 17 fans of Colombian soccer club Deportivo Cali were arrested and fifty more were detained by police, hours before a match against Boca Juniors in the group stages of the Copa Liberatores in Buenos Aires on Thursday.
The fans were arrested on suspicion of carrying out attacks and resisting authority, as well as carrying knives, the Ministry of Security said.
The arrests took place in a park south of the city, a few blocks from the La Bombonera stadium, where the match that will define the classification to the round of 16 of the continental competition was set to be played.
Police said they seized several knives, razors and bottles of alcohol.
The day before, several Deportivo Cali fans were involved in a fight with fans from Racing Club near a railway station in a suburb south of the capital.
